BOULDER
UNDERPASS
Boulder, Colorado, 1992
Artist designed and fabricated
formliners for surface texture of two cast-in-place walls
8' high x 60' long. Art is integrated with structural
walls and cast by construction workers. Multiple images
refer to the architecture, location, and symbology of
the University of Colorado. Reflecting Boulder’s
topology, the wall surfaces vary in increments of l/8".
Bronze books and book titles and stone bison (reminiscent
of Caves of Lascaux, France) were inserted after concrete
was poured. Recipient of AIA award and Historic Boulder
Preservation Award.
