THE GREAT RIVER

Winona, Minnesota, 1999

Carolyn Braaksma, in collaboration with Brad Kaspari, designed the terrazzo and Kasota stone lobby floor for the Winona State University Library. The 26’ diameter design is a regional map centered on Winona, with river images of Minnesota that include a paddle wheel, logging brands and indigenous fish. The extensive placement of brass text within the river pays homage to Minnesota’s writers and defines the river current.
